Chemical Barrier

CA properly installed chemical barrier prevents entry of foraging termites into the structure but does not eliminate the termite colony There have been so many cases where property owners are driven to desperation because of TERMITES!!!

Initial Inspection & Report

Requires a complete thorough inspection of the buildings and surrounds, and a detailed written report on areas inspected, evidence found of termite activity, high risk termite entry areas inaccessible to inspection and termite control options and limitations thereto. Recommended as essential.

Chemical Soil Treatment

Around the perimeter and sub-floor of a building to eradicate termites attempting to gain entry into the building through a treated soil area. On the grounds of safety and effectiveness Termidor or Premise termiticide, are recommended for this purpose – discussed in detail later in this website.

TERMITE BAITING and Potential TERMITE COLONY ELIMINATION

Involves the installation and monitoring of termite bait stations, such as Exterra and Sentricon systems. This method relies heavily on the termites “finding” and consuming sufficient bait. Recommended in some circumstances.

BUILDING MODIFICATIONS and MAINTENANCE

Iincluding some termite risk reduction measures the homeowner carry out, such as, improving sub-floor ventilation, removal of timber in contact with the soil, opening and clearing important inspection access areas, etc.

Regular FOLLOW-UP INSPECTIONS

Are essential and should be carried out at least every 3 to 6 months where signs of termite activity has been located in the vicinity of susceptible buildings or timber structures.

What is Intrigue?

Intrigue, developed in Australia by Bayer, is the world’s first termite dust containing a chitin synthesis inhibitor (CSI). Intrigue offers PCOs a welcome alternative to current dust treatments. It combines the application technique of arsenic dust but with the much more favourable toxicological profile of an insect growth regulator.

Intrigue can be used to eradicate treated colonies. However, there may be more than one colony around a house so it is strongly recommended that a Premise soil treatment be applied.

Who can use Intrigue? Intrigue is for the use of licensed, competent Pest Managers only and is sold through pest control distributors. As termite dusting is a highly skilled practice this product will not be available to the general public. In fact, Bayer strongly recommends that all Pest Managers complete an Intrigue training course prior to using Intrigue in the field. This is to ensure that the best possible results are achieved.

Is Intrigue safe?

The active ingredient of Intrigue is triflumuron. It is a chitin synthesis inhibitor which only affects organisms which produce chitin (insects and crustaceans). Thus all vertebrates (birds and mammals), which do not produce chitin, will not be affected by Intrigue. As the application is in very low doses and is directed only in termite workings, there is little risk to any non-target organisms.
